When it comes to weather safety, all the technology in the world canโt replace the human eyes on the skies, and the National Weather Service would like to add yours to their toolbox of detectors.
Next week is Severe Weather Awareness Week, and the Sheboygan County Department of Emergency Management will team up with the National Weather Service on Wednesday, April 9th to offer free storm spotter training. No reservations are needed; just show up at the Sheboygan Falls Fire Department building from 6:30 โ 8:30 p.m. that day where attendees will learn about severe weather safety, how to be severe weather aware, the details behind watches and warnings, and walk away as a trained National Weather Service Spotter.
Ready Wisconsin is the statewide counterpart to a national effort to prepare the public for when severe weather strikes. A part of the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs, it will be behind the statewide tornado drill on Thursday next week at two times: 1:45 and 6:45 p.m., when people are encouraged to practice responding to such an emergency.
Those attending storm spotter training will know what to do. Those who canโt be there can go to the ReadyWisconsin site online to learn whatโs needed to stay safe when severe weather hits.
