Sheboygan City Attorney Charles Adams has stepped down from his position of representing the city out of what he called “the mutual interest of both parties.” Adam’s move follows a closed session of the City Council, acting as the City’s Ethics Board under Section 2-243 of the City’s Municipal Code to receive a report related to Adams’ conduct and performance, which was completed by the firm von Briesen and Roper. The City announced that it would take no formal action resulting from that discussion.
Attorney Adams said that: “My career goal was to serve the public interest and help make Sheboygan a premier place to live, work, and play.” and he expressed his thanks to city employees and leadership for the opportunity to serve the City and enjoy a career in public service.
Adams began serving Sheboygan as an Assistant City Attorney beginning in 1996, and was first elected as City Attorney in 2015. Until a new City Attorney is named, the City will contract with outside counsel to perform the statutory duties of that office.
